Thanks for this insightful piece.
What I noticed working in a middle school was that I don't think any of my 7th graders from last year had much idea who M.J. was. Now, since his death over the summer, he is suddenly reborn as the latest idol among these same students who are now eighth graders. Never mind nostalgia, the media has propelled him instantly right along side Chris Brown, Brittney Spears and other unfortunate role models pasted on book jackets of the facebook generation.
